Beerista Workshop

What is the ideal group size for the Beerista workshop?

8 is a good group size, but the main constraint is the size of your bar and cellar. We need to get everyone into the cellar or behind the bar safely.

Think also about the multiplier effect of having more people on the training. We find that management teams tend to restrict access to training and this massively slows down any implementation of learning, and prevents the very cultural changes that they are looking to achieve through training.

How long does the Beerista workshop last for?

Allow 5.5 hours for the workshop. We work flexibly with you to find the right time to accommodate the training.

Of course, the learning continues long after the workshop has concluded… 😉

What is the right way to mix beer line cleaning chemical?

Always add a measured amount of chemical to less than the full quantity of clean water needed. Mix in the chemical by adding the remaining water.

For full training on the safe handling of beer line cleaning chemical at point of use, see the Beerista workshop.

Always wear PPE.

How much does the Beerista workshop cost?

It costs £650 + VAT including all materials.

So, with 8 people on the workshop, that’s about £80 per person.

Can you deliver the Beerista workshop at our venue?

Yes – we can’t imagine how your team can learn otherwise. It’s always best to learn on your own equipment.

BeerWorks Training

What is the ideal group size for the BeerWorks training?

The more people you have on this training, the more effective its implementation. Group sizes tend to be 6-12 people, but the main constraint is the size of your bar area. As long as everyone can get behind the bar/s then we can cope with any group size.

Desana VERIFY beer line cleaner

What is purple beer line cleaner?

There are two sorts of purple beer line cleaner;

  1. those that are ‘intelligent’ and change colour in accordance with the amount of contamination in a beer line,
  2. and those that are imitation beer line cleaners with a purple or blue dye – this second category do not change colour and are liable to mislead the user into thinking their beer lines are clean.

Desana VERIFY and MAX powders are the most powerful, accurate and reliable ‘intelligent’ colour-change chemicals, allowing an extremely thorough cleaning result. Less reliable chemicals can give false readings.

Hygiene Health Checks

What does the Hygiene Health Check include?

Please see the Hygiene Health Check page on the web site for a full list, but the principle of this service is that we make no assumptions and every aspect of the beer dispense system (including operational procedures) are investigated.

How much does a Avani Hygiene Health Check cost?

There is a fixed fee of £250 + VAT including full report with recommendations.

Do we have to stop serving beer during a hygiene health check?

No, we work around you and it’s important that we’re able to see how the beers are pouring during normal service. As part of the health check we will require about 15 mins of your time to discuss the issues you are having, and you may want to be available at the end for a de-brief, although a full report will follow.

ProClean Service

What is an SOS deep clean?

For detailed information about the ‘re-set’ service on beer dispense systems, visit here

Every ProClean service is launched with an SOS and diagnostic on the system. This helps to snag any issues.

Can ProClean help to improve yields on my beer sales?

Yes, although the actual improvement figures depend on your starting point. Certainly our work with existing clients has delivered significant and ongoing financial gains.

Any company offering to extend your line cleaning from 7 days is going to make claims about beer savings – it stands to reason that if you clean less often, you will make savings from the contents of each beer line. So you will regularly see claims that offer you 75% beer loss savings and this refers to the move from 7-day to 28-day line cleaning.

But in addition to this, we focus on driving quality improvements, and you will see far greater financial gains from this work.

Is there special equipment you use in the cellar for the ProClean?

In short, no. Our experience has shown that nothing replaces the manual cleaning procedure. There is no evidence that devices connected to drop lines in cellars does anything to prevent yeast growth in the complete dispense system.

With ProClean, how often do you clean the lines, and why?

We flex and adapt the cleaning frequency to suit the conditions in your venue, but the majority of sites are cleaned every 4 weeks. The key measure is quality and our intention is that beer quality is as good on day 28 as it is on day 1 of the ProClean cycle. For more information on this, please contact us

How long does the ProClean service take?

The ProClean service takes as long as necessary to get a thoroughly clean result on EVERY beer line. The length of time is influenced by the unique conditions of your venue, but we work efficiently to cause little to no disruption to you.

Does my lead brewer need to approve ProClean?

No, as you will be the bill payer, but our approach is collaborative and it is always a good idea to keep your lead brewer informed. We do liaise with your lead brewer on any technical faults that they might need to be aware of.

With ProClean, do you clean all lines including casks?

Yes, all beer lines are cleaned including cask lines. For more information and to request a quote, please contact us.

With ProClean, do we keep cleaning as normal in between cleans?

No. You don’t need to keep any beer line cleaning chemicals on site. As a ProClean customer, you do have some responsibilities though, to maintain bar hygiene and ensure beer stocks are rotated and sold in date.

What is the effect of using hot water in line cleaning?

A higher temperature accelerates the cleaning action, but care should be taken when using hot water as any synthetic materials (seals etc.) could become damaged. For regular maintenance cleaning it shouldn’t be necessary to use warm water.

We’re in a hard water area. What beer line cleaner should we use?

VERIFY Quest beer line cleaner has been formulated specifically to deal with hard water. The balance of chemicals prevents limescale from depositing on your beer dispense system and cleaning ringmain.

Check your water hardness. If you are in an area prone to water hardness, and do not have a water softener attached to your cleaning ringmain, you should consider using VERIFY Quest.

What is the right way to mix beer line cleaning chemical?

Always add a measured amount of chemical to less than the full quantity of clean water needed. Mix in the chemical by adding the remaining water.

SOS Rescue Cleans

Can you remove medicinal or chemical smells from beer lines?

Yes, this type of taint is referred to as ‘chlorophenol’ and occurs more with darker (phenolic) beers where chlorinated chemicals combine with the phenols and penetrate the inner lining of the beer line.

This problem can be treated successfully with the Avani SOS L3 service. The more costly alternative is to strip out and replace the beer line.

How do I get a quote to deep clean my beer lines?

Please contact the Avani office by either completing the contact form here, or calling the office on 01638 563237. You can also email info@avanisolutions.co.uk.

We will need to ask some questions about the problem before we’re able to supply you with a quote.

How long does an SOS deep clean take?

It depends on how many taps you have but as an example, allow 3 hours for 10 taps.

Can the SOS deep clean remove water taints from beer lines?

Yes it can, and we do this for a number of brewers and pub companies already. Please contact us for a quote and to discuss the nature of the issue.

The alternative to the SOS Level 3 deep clean for the removal of water taints, is the replacement of your beer lines, which is extremely costly, disruptive and time-consuming.
