Camden Town Brewery Chooses Best Beer Line Cleaners
Charlie Marchant is Trade Quality Innovation Manager at Camden Town Brewery working with a team of Trade Quality Technicians to ensure Camden Town beer is dispensed to the highest standard.
The business was founded in 2006 when Australian Jasper Cuppaidge bought a Hampstead pub and began brewing beer in the basement.
His beers started to gather a loyal following and a small brewery, then bigger premises followed.
Camden Hells is their flagship beer and is a cross between the pilsner and helles styles.
The Challenge
Avani Solutions and Camden Town Brewery originally teamed up when the brewery was so busy with new projects and installations that it needed help.
At that time a small technical team was tasked with beer quality and dispense and needed additional resource to clean beer lines and this is where the relationship with Avani started, providing support outside London.
Over time this relationship with Avani has evolved and The Camden Town dispense team, led by Charlie, has grown. In London, Camden Trade Quality Technicians mostly travel by public transport so not only do they need beer hygiene chemicals of the highest quality, but they must be in a format that can be easily carried.

The Solution
“For technicians walking around, you can’t be carrying 5-litre bottles of concentrate,” explains Charlie “so you guys having the powder sachets was a real benefit.”
The sachets in question include a chlorine-based line cleaner, a chlorine-free line cleaner, and an acid-based line cleaner and descaler (Desana MAX cl, Desana MAX FP chlorine-free, and DesanACID) which are diluted in water to make up several litres of line-cleaner – depending on the sachet size. As well as being efficient and thorough, the sachet range of cleaners is just as intelligent as the VERIFY liquid cleaners and uses the same technology.
There are other colour-change beer line cleaners on the market, but the Desana range (and VERIFY range) is much more colour accurate, giving the user a huge amount more control over their cleaning. This results in cleaner lines and better-quality beer dispense.
“There are purple line cleaners out there and people believe that if they run that chemical through the lines for ten minutes, and it comes out purple then the lines are clean – which is crazy,” says Charlie. “It must be identifiably clean, verifiably clean.”
“We buy and use a lot of chemicals and we recommend chemicals to our customers, and to be completely honest, Avani is just always the best. We use your chemicals because they’ve always been the gold standard.”
The Results
Charlie believes that teaching venue managers about the importance of line cleaning and beer quality best practice and using the best products to serve the best products is always something to aim for.
“It’s my job to train our customers to look after their lines and part of that is about using the best chemicals so the beer line cleaning chemical is key.
